Last night I had _kissingchaos (Shel), her partner Diana, and "Vegan Vet Tech Kelly" over for dinner. Having everyone in the same room at the same time completed a sort of circle, since I know Shel through LiveJournal and Diana coincidentally works with Kelly--yet I had not yet met Diana before and Kelly had never met Shel. I could have completed an even larger circle by inviting my former stepsister hopeful_1620 (Terri, who used to work with Kelly) in addition to my friends Rebecca and Matt H., who each previously worked with Diana. But Kelly said that if I did that our heads would explode. [Edit: I forgot bilgbygiblah, who Shel coincidentally knows from school! ::head explodes:: ]

For dinner I made spinach tofu lasagna with Daiya non-dairy mozzarella cheese. Thankfully it came out better than I expected. For dessert I had just bought cupcakes from The Cupcake Station in Ferndale, which always has vegan options available.

After dinner I wanted to show Kelly a short film I thought she would appreciate--the Quay Brothers' The Street of Crocodiles. I told her it involved stop-motion animation puppets, and she was initially horrified and said no. But I insisted.

I don't see what's so scary about this!

Nobody fled in horror and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. They stayed later than I thought they would, which is a good thing. I'd like to try a slightly larger dinner party next time, but I might need a new table. Six people can cram in around my current one as long as the food is served buffet style, since there is no room left over once six plates are on it.

I am continuing to work on the trim for the kitchen/dining room doorway. In fact, since people are more likely to fulfill goals that are publicly stated, let me say that I hope to have it completed in time for my January 20th Vegan Brunch event.
