old gm building

exterior photos of the william s. conant house

I didn't get a phone call back from the real estate agent selling 7865 Van Dyke Place in West Village, but I did drive down there today to take some exterior photos. The original address of this house, built between 1903 and 1904, was 33 Van Dyke Place. Its first owner was William S. Conant, Vice President of Briscoe Manufacturing, a sheet metal producer. The house is even more overgrown than it appears in the real estate listing.

There is no garage in the back. At least the roof looks good for three-tab shingles, according to a very casual inspection. The exterior is some kind of stucco, but I can't tell if the discoloration is normal for a 110 year old house, or if it's the sign of serious water damage. Hopefully I will be able to see the inside soon. At $7,500, I assume right away that it needs at least as much work as the Bumblebee House did.
