  • I'm finally working on the history blog again, but I've chosen a subject that will make the next post a big project. I think I finally gained momentum on it this weekend.

  • Wednesday I left work a little early and hung out with Alyssa (a coworker of Bob's and a possible vocalist for a future Zelda and the Unibrows project) at Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum. She's a very good singer but doesn't read music, so we're trying to come up with the best way to have her learn and sing the Unibrows' music.

  • Friday I hung out with Kati, which hasn't happened in years (being married, having a one-year-old, going to school, and living "up north" [i.e., of 16 Mile road] probably has something to do with that). We went to Amici's Pizza in Berkley and then attended the Sonic Lullaby Festival a block away, where The Other Vegan Paul was playing. We also met up with Jen H. there. I forget the words the performers used to describe their music, but I would call it ethereal/ambient/minimalist. I wish that's what normal shows were. This was part of his performance:

  • Saturday I took my mom out for her birthday. We ate Indian food and we saw the Academy Award-nominated short films at the Detroit Film Theater. My favorite animated short film was Adam and Dog, and I think the best live-action short film was Curfew.

  • Sunday Kara texted me while I was wandering the West Side Industrial District for my research project to tell me that the Lager House, where she was working, had brunch going on until 3. I went there and had the vegan biscuits and gravy. I had never had biscuits and gravy at all before, but I liked it.

Later that afternoon Wabash Matt and I went to get the old bathroom sink that used to be in the house, but has been sitting in my mom's basement for the last year. I saw the inside of the Wabash house for the first time in six months. I can't believe how thoroughly the bank cleared everything out. I left behind useful things in the garage--an antique door, some extra fence panels, etc.--but the place was wiped clean. Even the chicken coop was ripped out and the compost bins next to the garage were gone. Hell, even the COMPOST was gone!

Going inside of that house is honestly a huge bummer, but I'm still interested to see how the renovation is going to go.
