Thursday--My brother Matt formally adopted his step-son Benji. They have of course been one family for years--Matt and Keri married in 2009 and had two daughters, but now Benji has the same last name as his mom, Matt, and his sisters.

Friday--Joe and I drove up to see Chris in a play with the Ridgedale Players and met Sarah up that way. She was delighted that the first thing Chris said upon meeting her was, "You must be Dr. Girlfriend!"

Saturday--Sarah and I threw a vegan comfort foods party, with a menu of macaroni and cheese, meatballs, gravy, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, biscuits, Hostess-style cupcakes, and ice cream sandwiches. Fifteen guests attended. I forgot to take a photo of the buffet until half the food was eaten:

Sunday--Mother's Day began with making my mom sit outside in the cold wind. We like to go to Inn Season Cafe for brunch on Mother's Day, but it gets so crowded that we wait in the line that forms outside before they open. But the food made it all worth it.

Yes, photos of food outnumber photos of family members in this post.

Afterward we checked out the flower market that Royal Oak holds every Mother's Day. We bought some flowers and some mulch from Meijer and did some gardening at her house. When our goals there were accomplished, she suggested we work a little on my own garden, and I thought it would be a good idea to put my mom to work on the one day of the year that you're not supposed to put your mom to work. She picked up Bob along the way and we planted a couple more things. My neighbor across the street Shirley came over and asked us to take some of her lillies-of-the-valley, which are overcrowding her garden. We will take advantage of that next week, when it's warmer. After working, the three of us enjoyed leftovers from the previous night's party.

I know you aren't seeking my approval, nor does it matter. BUT upon meeting her, Dr. Girlfriend is splendid.
